disaster support

Japan is a country prone to natural disasters such as typhoons, heavy rain, heavy snow, floods, landslides, earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions.

In terms of the breakdown of damage caused by disasters in Japan, typhoons accounted for the largest proportion at 57.1 %, followed by earthquakes and floods.

Why are there so many disasters in Japan?

The reason why there are so many disasters in Japan is because there are many conditions that make it easy for natural disasters to occur.

1) Earthquakes and volcanoes

Japan is located at the intersection of several rock plates that cover the Earth's surface. This is a place where plates collide on a scale not seen anywhere else in the world, resulting in frequent earthquakes and volcanic activity.

2) Typhoons and heavy rains

Japan is located in the path of typhoons, and the southeastern ocean area is prone to typhoons. These typhoons promote storms and frontal activity, causing heavy rains.

3) Floods and landslides

Seventy percent of Japan's land area is mountainous, and the steep slopes make the rivers prone to flooding. In addition, the movement of the earth's crust has created a complex and unstable topography, and the temperate climate with heavy rainfall makes the country prone to landslides.
